Allen Daugherty started his medical career in the USAF as a medic. He has now been in the medical field for 49 years. Having seen so many injuries, illnesses, and deaths, one overwhelming thought began to drive him; how many of those could have been prevented?

“It is a wonderful calling to be able to take care of those that are sick and injured, but how much more fulfilling would it be to prevent deaths, illnesses, and injuries?” He relates this to the field that he has been working in now for over 30 years, dialysis. How sad it is for people to have their kidneys fail and have to rely on dialysis treatments to survive.

“The really sad truth is, a large number of these patients could have avoided (prevented) their kidney failure.” The two leading causes of kidney failure are diabetes and high blood pressure; both very treatable and controllable conditions.

After encountering thousands of patients in his 49-year career, Allen is now focusing on prevention; both in health and safety. He founded P.H.A.S.E. (Preventive Health and Safety Engagement) in hopes that he can help create awareness which in turn, will save lives and prevent illnesses and injuries.

His book, “An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth More Than You Can Imaging” is truly an eye opener as to what role prevention plays in reducing risk and chance.
